NEIGHBOURHOOD TAURANGA At the head of a large harbour on the beautiful Bay of Plenty coast, Tauranga has become a “boom town” thanks mainly to the sun, sea and surf lifestyle on offer. The city has a warm dry climate which explains Tauranga’s traditional popularity with retirees and holiday makers - and nowadays with people of all ages relocating in the search for alternative and more relaxed lifestyles. With the fastest growth of any New Zealand city (the population has tripled in 25 years), Tauranga is expected to overtake Dunedin as the fifth largest city in a few years’ time. Sun and surf seekers have always been attracted to the city, and the lively resorts at Mt Maunganui and Papamoa continue to attract holidaymakers from all over New Zealand. Tauranga Bridge Marina, located inside the harbour and within five minutes of the city shopping centres, is an excellent starting point for exploring the stunning Bay of Plenty coast. Off the beach, and away from the water, there are unlimited choices of leisure and recreational activities all year round: mountain biking at Oropi Grove, swimming at Greerton Aquatic Centre, golf, bowling, and events at Tauranga Racecourse and Baypark Stadium. Tauranga has a range of schooling for all ages throughout the district, and tertiary students can stay close to home at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic or the University of Waikato’s TGA campus. |
