NEIGHBOURHOOD ALBANY When it comes to convenience Albany is hard to beat: it’s become the commercial and retail centre of Auckland’s North Shore - and is still growing. New housing is in demand from singles, couples and families who want to live close to work, schools and leisure activities, and have easy access to the northern motorway and park-and-ride service into Auckland. Albany also appeals to commuters who work in the city but want the lifestyle offered by this modern metropolitan area. The country’s biggest shopping mall is the latest addition to Albany’s already extensive retail centre, and land is set aside for future commercial development. For shopping on a smaller scale, Albany Village offers a quaint alternative with the added bonus of an excellent library, playground and park which is home to the famous Albany "free range" chickens, always a surprise for newcomers and visitors.
